GLITCH — JUSTUS HINES PART AND INTERVIEW

  |   SLUSH STAFF

Name:
 Justus Hines

Age: 27
Current Whereabouts + Occupation: Four Corners, Montana. But before that I was living in Sandpoint, Idaho.
So for the last 6 years or so I have been running a Painting business. I started that when I was about 19 in Ellensburg, Washington and then moved it up to Sandpoint a couple years ago. But I  just took a job here in Montana so I could heal my knee and back. Im Managing a Tattoo shop here. It’s kind of this mix of taking on an expansion, running social media for the shop, and helping schedule all the artists. It’s pretty cool but definitely has been a change of pace. I'm wearing a lot of hats right now. I'm super excited to get this new shop built out and open. You all should come get a tattoo. The shop is called Gold Thorn.

Why film for “Glitch”?
It was kind of an idea built out of my injury. I had some clips but wasn't sure what to do with the footage. I decided to keep mulling over it and got to talking with Flux about putting together an archive part since it is their 30 year anniversary and I’ve been with them for 10 years. The idea with Glitch kind of just came from where I felt like I was at in life. I feel like I’ve dealt with a lot of  “glitches” in my life and somehow I seem to make it to a better spot once a glitch comes and gos. So just trying to turn something negative, like an injury or something, into a positive and it’ll work out. Im super grateful to be able to put this out while I am healing.

What did it take to make?

A lot of friendship. Talking to friends about having guest shots and contributing clips.  Putting together an archive part is different from filming a one or a two year project for sure. You gotta be picky with what you use. But a lot of just being persistent with talking to homies and trying to stay rooted in gratitude as much as possible. iTs cool to be able to show the snowboarding I’ve done since I was teenager with everyone who’s involved.

Memorable Experience
I got two - First would be my time in Quebec filming with Kaleah and Gabe - we have all kind of gone our separate ways but I never really thought I would be able to use any of that footage. Looking back I remember having like $30 dollars to my name trying to chip ice off the stairs, thinking about how I was gonna make it through the next week until my flight home. Second would absolutely be filming with my best friend Austin last winter up at Alpy. Christmas storm, pass shut down three times, it was like 10 degrees up there and we were staying in my camper. Once in a  lifetime score. And Third - Of course all my memories with Ryan Finder and the Wyld Instinct fam as well. I remember Jaeger was hitting that Mammoth Middle school spot, we had just rolled in from Tahoe and he yells at me from the top of the school to come hit it. His hair was dyed red that ironically matched the strawberrita that he had been taking swigs off of. I had no intention of hitting that spot at all but his energy was so contagious I couldn’t say no. Three tries later I got that switch 180 5-0 and we went and got tacos to celebrate. J-bae forever I love you and miss you and am so thankful for the time we got to spend.

What’s next?

I'd love to go to Japan. Mostly I just want to film and get back on my board. Hopefully go surf in may once the Doc clears me. Maybe hit the dome at Big Snow with Holce in the summer.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Follow your dreams, love your people, stay in gratitude and everything will work out.

Thank you so much to Liam and Flux for supporting and making this happen. Sean Genovese and the whole DWD fam. Adam for working with me on this. Ryan Finder and the Wyld instinct fam. All the filmers and photogs. Pat, Ted, Katie and everyone at Slush. All the brands and people that have supported me ever. Thank you to all my friends and family, love y’all.
